Auckland is full of intentionally and accidentally introduced plants. Most of them are not a threat, but some become a problem as they compete with native species and change our natural environment.

As many of our indigenous plant species are now extinct or threatened, controlling pest weeds is essential in the battle to preserve the native biodiversity of Auckland.

Remember to always check for wāhi tapu (sacred places) and other cultural heritage sites when doing large scale pest plant control.

See our Guide to controlling pest plants.
